Goldie Hawn
Goldie has designed at least 6 homes of note in her lifetime. Her Malibu residence; her Canadian retreat, her 4500 square foot penthouse apartment on New York’s Central Park; her Pacific Palisades home, just sold, and her new current dream home, again in the Palisades; and her Palm Desert Oasis.
Each home was designed to be a “happy home”. Goldie, after 9/11, left the film business to start the Hawn Institute, and developed a program using her own money that would bring in experts of mindfulness and brain studies, to teach children how they can stay more emotionally fit and calm in a world that was becoming more stressful and dangerous for children.
After years of studies, her resulting Mind UP program was adopted by the Vancouver school system after major universities studied and endorsed it and test scores on children came back higher than anyone ever imagined. Today, Mind Up is taught in approximately 400 schools in the US and has been adopted formally in the UK and reaches as far as the Emirates, Africa, and beyond.
She has published a London Times and New York Times bestselling book, 10 Mindful Minutes and a companion workbook, also a best-seller, which is a call to action to give our children the social and emotional skills to and anxiety for happy, healthier lives. Her design incorporates the same principles into her homes.
Each home has always been designed for casual comfort and a “safe place” where one can retreat to meditate, read or just be away for quiet time. These are “family homes” designed with the idea that families need rooms to be together as much as possible but where there are places for retreat for any family member at any time.
Goldie will present a slide show that shares the beauty of these homes with the audience accompanied by her purposeful design narration. Like any designer, she had a reason for creating each room in a specific manner. Following the multi-media presentation she would, of course, take Q&A questions.
While Goldie, by many, is remembered for her cutesy blond character, silly giggle and string of comedic hit films, audiences will discover that there is quite a serious, incredibly intelligent, woman behind her fun loving exterior.
